Last week I announced that I'm training for my first 5K with some of my girlfriends. We've been working out on our own some and getting together when we can. 4 of us met yesterday afternoon and walked/ran for a little more than 30 minutes. It felt great. And I've lost 2 pounds already after the first week. :))
I thought I would share our training program for anyone who's interested. I'm calling it "Beth's couch to 5K" since my friend Beth is our evil trainer. Just kidding there. She's one of the nicest people I've ever known.
Here's what we're doing:
(For each week, do the workout 3 to 4 times.)
Week 1: Walk 30 minutes
Week 2: Walk 4 minutes, Run 1 minute
Repeat 4x
Walk 4 minutes
Week 3: Walk 4 minutes, Run 2 minutes
Repeat 4x
Walk 3 minutes
Week 4: Walk 3 minutes, Run 3 minutes
Repeat 4x
Walk 3 minutes
Week 5: Walk 2 minutes 30 seconds, Run 5 minutes
Repeat 2x
Walk 3 minutes
Week 6: Walk 3 minutes, Run 7 minutes
Repeat 2x
Walk 3 minutes
Week 7: Walk 2 minutes, Run 8 minutes
Repeat 2x
Walk 3 minutes
Week 8: Walk 2 minutes, Run 9 minutes
Walk 2 minutes, Run 8 minutes
Walk 3 minutes
Week 9: Walk 1 minute, Run 9 minutes
Walk 1 minute, Run 9 minutes
Walk 3 minutes
Week 10: Walk 2 minutes, Run 13 minutes

Week 11: Walk 2 minutes, Run 14 minutes

This looks like a very manageable training schedule and I am sure you will benefit greatly and even enjoy it! I ran a 5k with my daughter last year-Bold in The Cold-it was exciting for me!

ReplyDeleteYes. It's just a matter of making time for it. 30 minutes a day is very do-able. No gym membership necessary! ~ Angie

ReplyDeleteIt is hard to get started. I've been saying I was going to do this for over a year now. Peer pressure finally got to me! But now I'm just asking myself why I didn't start a long time ago. It's not that bad!! Thanks for stopping by. Have a great day! ~ Angie

ReplyDeleteThanks so much for posting this Angie. :)
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a great training regimen. I haven't run for years (and my big butt's the proof!), but back when I did, I found nothing else quite gave me as much stamina and strength as running. It was definitely worth it. You are inspiring! And that photo of you up at the top of your post is awesome! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling energized so far and I'm only into the 2nd week. It's actually been fun (gasp!) so far! And that picture is my inspiration! Even though I don't think I'll ever look like her, it's motivation!
DeleteOh, and I love your new blog header!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I just changed it out today!
DeleteGood luck on your 5k!! You'll be so proud once you cross that finish line. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! I only began adding the running into the mix last week and it's already been invigorating. It's bringing out my long-lost competitive spirit! Good luck on your marathon. Maybe someday I'll do a 1/2 marathon at least! Thanks for stopping by. ~ Angie
